The Glass Cage

Mint Theatre, American Premiere

Iconic playwright JB Priestley's play had never been done in the states. The play takes place in 1908. Written in 1958. Our production took place in 2008. 50 years separating the setting from the writing from the production. The event of the play is

revealing the lies this rich and pious family was built on. The space is about revealing. A maze of copper pipe, a sculpture of

what lies inside the walls we don't see. A house constructed of pressurized gas pipes in the dawn of electricity. Floating sconces with no walls to them hang on. Completely side lit, we integrated the overhead lighting position of the theatre as a part of the room. It was all about what we See and Don't See. This set design by Roger Hanna won the Lucille Lortel Award.
