Happy End
New School College of the Performing Arts
This 1929 Brecht/Weill musical was the culmination of a strategic planning initiative conceived and executed at The New School. First, by creating a BFA Theatre program, then bringing together programs in Drama, Classical and Jazz Music to create The New School College of the Performing Arts. The design budget was extremely tight. "Celebrate the Limitations." A huge "Staircase to Nowhere" for these Dead End Denizens. Actors onstage the entire show. We couldn't afford walls or escapes, but the "poor theatre" strategy was perfect for the world of Brecht.
